An Inlet Floor Cone designed to optimize flow into pumps with suctions of 16 inches (400 mm) and larger. The cone features certified drawings, hydraulic laboratory-approved designs, durable Type 316L stainless steel construction, and a precision passivated finish for enhanced performance and longevity.

1. General Requirements
1.1. Inlet Floor Cone Design

  • The pump manufacturer shall provide an Inlet Floor Cone for each pump with a suction of 16 inches (400 mm) and larger.

1.2. Certified Drawings

  • Supplier to provide a certified drawing for review with the pump submittal, including:
    • Dimensions
    • Weight
    • Welding requirements
    • Material designations
    • Material thicknesses
    • Flange details

2. Design Approval
2.1. Hydraulics Laboratory Approval

  • The Inlet Floor Cone design must be approved by a nationally recognized hydraulics testing laboratory.

2.2. Physical Hydraulic Modeling

  • For pump sizes larger than 16 inches (400 mm), the design must be based on physical hydraulic modeling by a nationally recognized hydraulics laboratory.

3. Design Criteria
3.1. Key Dimensions

  • Diameter: To be specified
  • Height: To be specified
  • Triangles: To be specified
  • Straightening Vanes: To be specified
  • Baseplate Diameter: Round or octagonal, as required

3.2. Anchor Bolt Details

  • Bolt Size: To accommodate ½-inch anchor
  • Hole Diameter: 9/16 inch
  • Location: 4 holes, 1 inch from the edge

4. Materials
4.1. All components, including the baseplate, vanes, and triangles, shall be fabricated from Type 316L stainless steel with a minimum thickness of ¼ inch.

5. Welding
5.1. All pieces shall be continuously welded with a 1/8-inch weld bead.

6. Passivation Finish
6.1. Surface Preparation

  • Bead blast all surfaces for a uniform finish.

6.2. Cleaning and Passivation

  • Wash using Dawn dishwashing soap.
  • Passivate all surfaces with a mild solution of 10% citric acid and water, applied via wipe.

7. Approved Manufacturers
7.1. The following manufacturers are approved for the Inlet Floor Cone:

  • Flow Optimizers, LLC
  • Or Engineer-Approved Equal
