Flow Straightening Spool

Philadelphia Water – Schuylkill Pump Station

CASE STUDY

Problem:

Flow separation resulting from the 90-degree pump suction elbow mounted before the pump inlet.

Solution:

Flow Optimizer’s custom rolled six (6) 32-inch Flow straightening spools to be mounted directly onto the existing pumps suction piping.

Connections:

  • One end uses a “Van Stone” type flange to allow for ease of alignment.
  • The other end is grooved to allow use of a Victualic type I-300 clamp connection.

Vanes:

  • There are four (4) vertical flow conditioning vanes welded onto the inside diameter of the pipe.
  • Each vane is angled 45-degrees on the upstream side to allow rags & solids to pass without clogging.

Materials:

  • SCH40 – 316 Stainless Steel
